Terrific, desirable shrub performance in low-water gardens distinguishes this ornamental Texas sage-like shrub. Showy reddish-purple flowers dazzle eyes in summer and fall, and delight hummingbirds, butterflies, and bees. Silverado sage is a dense, mounded shrub with fuzzy, silvery grayish-green foliage and added interest from smooth gray bark. Exhibiting an upright spreading habit of growth, it's an excellent choice in mass plantings, for hedges and screens, and general landscape use. Can also be featured as a specimen plant or mixed with other plants in a sunny container on the patio, along a walkway or garden path, or near an entryway. Admirably fills in those hot spots where other plants may struggle or fail. A natural for waterwise gardens, easy-care Silverado sage is highly drought tolerant once established. Grows to 6 ft. high and wide. Plant in full sun. Thrives in poor, well-drained soils. Growth rate will vary with the amount of extra water applied during the growing season. Water established plants every 2-3 weeks in summer. Prune once or twice in spring or summer to remove dead stems and to increase density.
