Not only is Seiryu one of the easiest Japanese Maples to grow, but it is also one of the only known upright lace leaf varieties, and certainly the most vigorous. 'Seiryu' grows with a complete upright habit that reaches a tall and similar form to popular cultivars such as Bloodgood or Red Emperor, but with intricate lacey leaves and vivid color transformations throughout the seasons. The foliage appears green in spring with a slight red or pink tinge on the tips of each leaf, which eventually fade to a very attractive medium green leaf for summer. Occasionally, depending on climate, in late summer the colorful red/pink tips reappear. Color changes from green to a vivid burgundy in autumn before shedding leaves for the year and going dormant in winter. Seiryu is a larger Japanese Maple cultivar that reaches about 12 ft in height and 10 ft in width, perfect for a focal point of landscapes. Known to tolerate cold down to -20° F.
