Flow restriction is required for all reverse osmosis systems at the drain line to keep an optimal waste water flow, and is recommended to be replaced each time the membrane is being replaced, in order to maximize the system efficiency. The restrictor must be sized according to the capacity of the membrane. AFR1500 is designed for ro systems with 200 - 400 gpd.

The flow restrictor works with the reverse osmosis membrane to keep a perfect ratio of water flow to the drain and filtered water production flow. When waste water jam into the restrictor there will be no waste water outflow and can cause RO membrane plugging. When the waste water flow is too big, the flow restrictor can't produce drinking water.
