Crafted from aerospace-grade aluminium with a non-slip coating over it, this press does its work through mass and metal rather than electricity. Gravity brings the upper mould down and the aluminium conducts heat into the ice, shaping a rough cube into a 60 mm, 2.4 in. sphere in 40 to 60 seconds, which means a round of drinks gets proper ice without a silicone mould and an overnight wait in the freezer. The internal groove closes tightly as the mould descends, and that fit is what produces a genuinely round, intact ball rather than a lopsided one with a flat face. The point of the shape is practical as much as visual: a sphere has less surface area than cubes of the same volume, so it melts more slowly and keeps a drink cold without watering it down before it is finished. A tong for handling the finished ball and a drip tray for meltwater both come with the press, and soaking the body in warm water between presses keeps it working through several in a row. It suits whisky and cocktails, and works just as well in coffee, juice or milk. Material: Aluminum Alloy.
