Someone knocks, and instead of opening the door you slide back a small wood panel and say hello through clear tempered glass and a wrought iron grille. That is the functioning speakeasy window, the heart of this Mediterranean Knotty Alder Arch Top Speakeasy Prehung Front Door and an Old World detail you will use every week. Evening light rakes across the V-groove panels, pools under the arch, and picks out the dark knots that give solid knotty alder its depth, while decorative clavos and a strap hinge finish the face. No two doors wear their knots alike. Behind the ironwork, engineered knotty alder stiles and rails are doweled to stay square, and the full 1-3/4 in. solid panel swings with real hardwood weight, as square in April as in August. It arrives prehung on a solid knotty alder jamb that matches the door, with an adjustable bronze threshold and oil-rubbed bronze hinges. Weather stripping is fitted at the factory, and the double bore takes a deadbolt or a keyless smart lock with no drilling. The speakeasy glass is insulated, tempered, and low-E coated, so the charm holds its heat. A fiberglass door at this price can copy the arch and even print the grain; what it can't do is slide open to see who's knocking. Color: Unfinished.
